Kaspars Daugavins Scores Twice, B-Sens grind out victory
Barry Brust made 32 saves, Kaspars Daugavins scored twice, and the Binghamton Senators snapped a three-game winless streak with a 4-1 victory over the Norfolk Admirals in front of 3,384 fans at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Sunday.
Andrew Sweetland and Colin Greening also scored for the B-Sens, who pulled within two points of the Admirals for fourth place in the East Division with four crucial divisional road games on tap for this week.
“It was a good game to bounce back, and a good effort,” B-Sens coach Kurt Kleinendorst said. “It’s not that we didn’t make mistakes; we did make mistakes, but when we made them, we were really good about battling back and covering up. And then we had Barry. Again, he makes the saves when we need them — another good effort by him.”
Daugavins scored both his goals from close range, getting his stick on loose pucks Admirals goalie Jaroslav Janus couldn’t quite cover up before they crossed the goal line.
“We have a hard-working team, and our style is not making tic-tac-toe plays,” Daugavins said. “Our coach talks about it. We talk about it in the room. All our goals that we score are dirty goals. We go there, we crash, we work, and there’s not many pretty goals we score during this season.
